Earth Jamboree

By the 8th graders: Erika, Nathanael, and Tabitha

On September 7th, the fifth graders (Jill, Joel, and Kalli) and the sixth graders (Luke, Nolan, and Shane) had the opportunity to attend the Earth Jamboree at the Clay Center fair grounds.  When they got there they were divided into groups with other schools and walked around to different stations.
The fifth graders' favorite stations were "Pest Control" and "Water Jeopardy". At Pest control they discussed how to control pests.  Kalli and Joel enjoyed seeing roaches and the corn snake "Corny".  For Water Jeopardy they had five categories to choose from.  There were four different teams.  The object was to fill your team's jug first.  Each question was worth so many cups of water.  Kalli was on the winning team, Jill's team got second and Joel's team came in last.
Other stations involved treasure hunting with hand held GPS, making prints in fabric using leaves, learning about poisons, and milking a goat.  At the station with the goat they learned about a goat's stomach.  The lady had all four parts in jars for them to see.  Joel says that he liked the milking part, but not seeing the body parts.  Even though Jill says that they learned more about water than earth, they had a pretty fun time.  They learned some interesting facts and they got to skip a day of school.
